C-M-a move to the beginning of the function
C-M-e move to the end of the function

M-x hs-minor-mode RET
C-c  C-h hide the body of a function/comment
C-c  C-s show the body of a function/comment

    Just as a note depending on your version of emacs the show/hide commands may be:
    C-c @ C-h and C-c @ C-s
    hope that helps and thanks for an amazing tip – I was getting quite frustrated at the lack of something like this in emacs but it was there all along (as usual)
